Announcing Discipleship Ecosystem by Rev. Dr. Denny Wayman

January 29, 2023

Rev. Dr. Denny Wayman introduces his trilogy of discipleship books that explore what healthy spiritual disciplines look like and how, without care, some church practices can lead to unhealthy behaviors.

– Discipleship Ecosystem
I realized early on that the Spiritual Disciplines were the key. These classic verbs that describe the variety of interactions we can have with God were descriptions of accessing the complexity and community of God. I also realized that Spiritual Gifts as well as Fruit of the Spirit were inextricably connected to experiencing God in a growth relationship. But if this is God’s method to mature us then why was I not seeing very many fruitful Christians? Were most of us so detached from God that we were not experiencing the nourishment necessary for fruit to grow? Why were so many gifted people using their gifts without love, or patience or even kindness? Why were there so many poisoned apples within the orchard of God’s people? These questions led me to God’s discipleship ecosystem.

– Toxic Discipleship
With the skill of a counselor and the spirit of a pastor, the Rev. Dr. Denny Wayman identifies the toxins which keep us from fully living the holy, abundant life to which Christ has called us. Carefully explaining each of the ways the seven deadly sins are manifest today, Wayman does more than just point out what is wrong. He shows how we can be right by not just eliminating such shortcomings from our lives but by changing our lives through submission to the purifying work of God’s Spirit. Both individuals and groups will benefit from this clear call to authentic discipleship. Everyone should read this book, and put it into practice.

– Rootbound
There is no doubt that the mission of the church is to make disciples. There is also no question that much of a church’s time and resources are spent on what seem to most Christians to be either part of making disciples or necessary to the task. But is that true? Are the activities and practices of most churches effective and necessary in making disciples? This book explores that claim and follows Wayman’s two previous books on discipleship: Discipleship Ecosystem and Toxic Discipleship.

Fresh Oil, Fresh Anointing: Breaking Spiritual Bondage with Bishop Kenny Martin
Fresh Oil, Fresh Anointing: Breaking Spiritual Bondage with Bishop Kenny Martin

Bishop E. Kenneth Martin delivers a prophetic challenge to the Free Methodist Church, confronting deep-rooted issues of spiritual bondage, systemic oppression, and the church’s complacency. “Churches are dying in a cage,” he declares, calling for a radical shift in how the church addresses:

– Spiritual chains of sin and oppression
– Historical and ongoing impacts of slavery
– Diversity, equity, and inclusion challenges
– The church’s reluctance to engage difficult conversations
– Breaking free from “nasty” church politics and self-serving leadership

“This is a season of manifestation,” Martin says, urging a breakthrough from 2025 to 2035 that will transform the church locally and globally.
