Kingdom Ministry Group – 2021 Year-End Report

January 12, 2022 | Featured, Leadership

Throughout the month of January, we are highlighting the work we do together as the Free Methodist Church in Southern California through year-end reports shared by the people who serve us all in the boards and committees of the conference.

About the Kingdom Ministry Group

The purpose of the Kingdom Ministry Group is to see to the development of sustainable and vital Free Methodist societies by fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the Annual Conference to sponsor church planting projects and care for societies requiring revitalization. As with all Free Methodist Church leadership, the board is composed of an equal number of ministerial and lay (non-ordained) leaders.

The Kingdom Ministry Group (KMG) was created to help streamline the process of church planting. The KMG partners with the appointed leadership of Church Planting Projects and fosters them into healthy, thriving Free Methodist Societies.

Our priority is supporting our pastors. The KMG – led by Superintendent Charles Latchison and Pastor Refugio Sanchez – partners with our pastors to assess needs, opportunities, and obstacles to create functional structures for sustainable ministry. The KMG is reaching out to our pastors to ensure they are personally doing well during this difficult time.

A second priority is to ‘shore up’ structures and processes to streamline onboarding, facilitate and encourage growth, and create accountability. We want to ensure all our churches are structured to thrive as we prepare for the coming superintendent transition.

We have two new church plants this year:

  • Paul Park at Free Life in Westminster and
  • Transformandos en Cristo led by Darmaris Lopez in Hermon

Finally, we’re working on creating a recruiting process / system to define and clarify policies and procedures for bringing on new churches. As part of this effort, we’re working on a development system with Pastor Mike Perkinson.

This has been a memorable year for so many reasons but looking back we can see God moving thoroughly throughout these Church Plants and their leadership. We are so blessed by these leaders and look forward to what the Lord has in store for the Kingdom Ministry Group in 2022.
