Inside Steve's Studio
June 26, 2009
It wasn't too long ago that we received a suggestion: it would be great to see something personal or funny about Steve Fitch, or the conference, on the website. In the spirit of this, we thought: why not something like "Inside the Actor's Studio"? A sort of parody.
Inside the Actor's Studio, as you may know, is a Bravo channel television show, hosted by James Lipton. While we reserve a hope to ask more questions in the same vein as Lipton at a later date (and for a later article), we did recently ask "Super-Duper-intendent Steve Fitch" how his recent vacation was and what were two of the most interesting things that happened during his vacation. Here is his response:
One of the most interesting moments was that I read 4 history books [Steve is a history buff]. Everybody wants to read these books, I know... Two books that were interesting:
- A book on the "Leyte Naval Battle." This was the largest
naval battle in history (during World War II)... It took place in the Leyte Gulf in the central Phillipines and, virtually, the Japanese navy ceased to exist at this point; that's how decisive it was. (for more on this topic, click here)
- A book on the Germany's Military Mystique (and, more indirectly, on the "Thirty Years War." "Fought between 1618 and 1648, principally on the territory of today's Germany, and involved most of the major European continental powers" - this saw the demise in "Germany's" population in excess of 50%. It basically set the stage for WWI and WWII. It said to Germany: these outstide forces can come in. As a result, there developed a hyper-militaristic approach, this event had so affected the German psyche.
